Rebuilding Shattered Lives – Supporting people of refugee background to recover from torture and other traumatic events Your Impact The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture, also known as Foundation House, is a leader in delivering specialist trauma-focused services that work with the strengths and resilience of refugees, their families, and communities to rebuild lives shattered by torture and other traumatic events.

The Practice Excellence Area of VFST is core to ensuring that the services provided by Foundation House to clients and communities are delivered to the highest standard and are in line with organisational purpose, priorities, and obligations.
The Practice Excellence Area is responsible for:
- Leading the design, delivery and implementation of practice development support and programs for all Foundation House staff in collaboration and partnership with the broader leadership team.
- Lead the design and delivery of external training aimed at supporting the work of the sector and broader mental health and wellbeing services to deliver trauma-informed care to communities from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.
- Leading the coordination of quality improvement initiatives for the organisation's service delivery arms.
- Leading the coordination and reporting of performance and quality measures to inform quality improvement initiatives and maintain a focus on practice excellence.
The Role This position sits under the Practice Development, Professional Learning Team. The team design and deliver high quality practice development and professional learning programs within Foundation House, and externally for the education, health, child, youth and family services, justice and community services. The primary focus of this position is the development, delivery, and evaluation of quality professional learning to external health, mental health, community, and settlement services, including Foundation House.
Reporting to the Professional Learning and Workforce Development Coordinator in support of the Manager Practice Development, this position plays a key role in delivering an efficient, responsive and specialist learning program that meaningfully contributes to improve service delivery within VFST and across the mental health, health, settlement, welfare, and educational sectors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and facilitate high-quality professional development training programs for a diverse range of external stakeholders across the sector, including health, education, community services, and other organisations working with refugee background communities, and for VFST staff.
- Contribute to the identification of training needs, design, content development, and facilitation for calendared and tailored professional and organisational development training programs.
- Design, develop, and facilitate a broad range of professional learning and advanced practice activities (including training sessions, workshops, webinars, online modules, practice seminars, communities of practice, lectures, conference presentations, and reflective practice sessions) grounded in adult learning principles and tailored to diverse internal and external audiences.
- Develop and implement evaluation methods to ensure training content is relevant, responsive, and aligned with organisational needs assessments and pre-learning diagnostics.
- Provide expert advice on training content, curriculum design, and evaluation frameworks including delivering training, coaching, and mentoring in training design, development, and facilitation to strengthen organisational capacity.
The role is available as an ongoing, full-time position and is based in our Brunswick office.
What you’ll need to successfully apply To be successful, you will need to positively respond to the below selection criteria:
- Post-graduate qualification in Psychology, Social work and/or other related disciplines.
- Advanced experience in design and delivery of professional learning programs, including experience in designing curriculum, training materials, and assessment tools informed by adult learning principles and contemporary instructional design methods
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice frameworks, preferably within refugee and asylum seeker contexts.
- Proven ability to translate complex theory and evidence into accessible, practical learning content for diverse professional workforces
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate learning in both online and in-person environments, using interactive and reflective methods suitable for varied participant groups
- Experience developing and applying evaluation frameworks for professional learning programs, including pre- and post-assessment, impact measurement, and continuous improvement
- High-level organisational and administrative skills, including accurate record-keeping, data management, and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and engage diverse professional audiences
