Rebuilding Shattered Lives – Supporting people of refugee background to recover from torture and other traumatic events Your Impact The CSCB Program is an innovative program designed to facilitate and support the development, growth, and empowerment of communities from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds to; recover from pre-arrival trauma, resettle positively, and strengthen these communities across Victoria, helping them thrive. Complementing and strengthening this work, CSCB also leads a program that builds on the capacity of the refugee and humanitarian service sector, whilst enabling mainstream health, mental health and wellbeing and education sectors to better understand the refugee and asylum seeker experience.
The Community Capacity Building (CCB) Deputy Team Leader is responsible for providing leadership and support to Community Capacity Building Practitioners working in their designated region under the direction of the CCB Regional Team Leader. The CCB Deputy Team Leader supports CCB Practitioners on a day-to-day basis, contributes to the development and delivery of CCB initiatives, performs direct community engagement and wellbeing promotion work, liaises with stakeholders and partners, and provides line management to CCB Practitioners as directed. The CCB Deputy TL will also provide secondary consultation to external services and professional development or training as required.
The role will also maintain relationships with regional staff to enable:
- Strong information sharing and collaboration across CCB and other program areas of VFST.
- Ongoing integration of knowledge and understanding of community needs, to inform organisational practice and sector support.
The Role The CCB Deputy TL will work with staff within the region and centrally to ensure that Community Capacity Building initiatives are well integrated and coordinated with the Sector Capacity Building, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Practice Excellence programs of Foundation House.
Key responsibilities include:
- Report to and support the CCB Team Leader on team operations, risk, performance and all issues affecting service delivery and outcomes; with a particular focus on, but not limited to, youth development initiatives.
- Provide leadership and line management support to CCB Practitioners as directed by the CCB Team Leader.
- Participate in and contribute to regional responsiveness, policy development, training and projects as identified by the CCB Regional Team and the Regional Service Alignment and Integration Leadership (SAIL) team.
- With the CCB Regional Team Leader, conduct reviews and evaluation of the CCB regional program to monitor emerging issues and identify opportunities, and develop recommendations for implementation and continuous improvement.
- Design, develop and deliver community capacity building initiatives, including groupwork, with people of refugee backgrounds in the region, to build community awareness of and enhance mental health and wellbeing.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support partnerships and collaborations to strengthen CCB outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and communication of CCB messages to enhance collaborative work and promote key messages of Foundation House.
Available is one part-time or full-time (0.8-1.0 EFT), 24-month fixed term position, based in our Dandenong office (with travel to our Ringwood office).
What you’ll need to successfully apply To be successful, you will need to positively respond to the below selection criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a community development or related health and human services discipline.
- Experience in working with young people from culturally diverse communities and/or communities experiencing displacement with an understanding of complex trauma and recovery models.
- Demonstrated expertise in trauma-informed practice and applying person-centred and strengths-based approaches with participants, families, and communities.
- Proven ability to contribute effectively to the overall leadership of the team.
- Proven skills in planning, organisation, problem solving and decision making.
- Experience as a member of a multidisciplinary team, working both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Ability to write high quality professional reports for a variety of key stakeholders.
