About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

The General Manager, Workforce Experience & Delivery is a senior leadership role within Te Pou Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce, reporting to the Hautū | Deputy Secretary, Education Workforce. You will provide leadership and management to enable the Ministry to deliver timely, fit-for-purpose workforce services for the education workforce.  Managing the delivery of multiple programmes so the sector can access essential support and information, and can deliver outcomes that benefit the schooling system, the education workforce and learners.

You will be responsible for working across the Ministry and working with the sector to design and implement priority initiatives supporting the education workforce. In this role, you will be leading a team of specialists managing contracts, delivering scholarships and awards and delivering sector communications.  You will be able to use data to develop insights to improve customer experience and inform service improvement. Evaluating performance of initiatives and  measuring outcomes is an important part of the role.

As a General Manager, you will build workforce capability and diversity, create a safe, positive and inclusive workplace, and develop strong partnerships and collaborate with stakeholders across the public sector and education system.

You are an experienced senior leader who thrives on turning strategy into delivery at an operational level, with the credibility and demonstrated capability to manage significant programmes, contracts and budgets. You will have the people leadership skills to build an inclusive, high-performing team, and the collaborative style needed to bring stakeholders along on the journey.

You will bring:

• Senior leadership experience delivering multiple complex programmes
• Experience and demonstrated success developing and delivering integrated strategic and operational plans and budgets
• Experience and demonstrated success leading the implementation, monitoring and improvement of organisational systems, frameworks and processes
• Experience driving organisational change aligned to strategic priorities that delivers intended outcomes
• Experience building and leading inclusive and diverse teams and creating an open and responsive culture, acting with integrity at all times
• A proven track record of building and maintaining trusted relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, Māori and iwi, and Ministers
• Sound political awareness and an up to date working knowledge of government processes, with a proven ability to navigate ambiguity in a complex environment
• Understanding of the New Zealand education sector, in particular workforce needs as they relate to the schooling system would be an advantage

This role sits within Te Pou Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce, the Ministry's business group responsible for enabling the education workforce across Aotearoa. As part of the senior leadership team, you will work with your team and colleagues to ensure the sector can access essential support and information, and deliver outcomes that benefit the schooling system, the education workforce and learners.
