About NAPCo
The North Australian Pastoral Company (NAPCo) was founded in 1877 and is one of Australia's leading beef cattle companies, managing over 6.1 million hectares, largest single herd in the world and home to Five Founders Beef. NAPCo employs approximately 220 staff operating across Queensland and the Northern Territory, with 15 cattle stations, a Depot in Mount Isa, a Feedlot and Farm in the Darling Downs and an office in Brisbane's CBD.
About the role
Working closely with the Data and IT Manager and key stakeholders to help modernise, deliver and drive the NAPCo data journey. The Data Engineer helps drive the continuing development of NAPCo's data lake/warehouse ELT processes, underlying architecture, security and tools used to assist the business to make informed decisions.
Collaborating with stakeholders, this role will help identify other opportunities in the business where modernisation can improve data outcomes for NAPCo.
Day to day duties include but limited to will span:
- ETL Processes and Data Pipelines - maintain and improve ELT processes leveraging Azure, diagnose and resolve issues, add new datasets and configuring pipelines ensuring quality of automated workflows. Support the development, testing, and deployment of data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data into the data lake and data warehouse.
- Data Warehouse\Lake Development - maintain or improve our existing data warehouse\lake solutions (SQL), apply data modelling techniques for storage optimisation and retrieval, whilst maintaining lake zones, standards and security
- Data Security and Compliance - Develop data security policies to protect sensitive information ensuring compliance with the regulations and industry standards
- Documentation and Reporting - Create comprehensive documentation and assist our Business Analysts with visualisation, security and reporting of our data using Microsoft PowerBI
- Training and Support - Provide training and support to the business on database tools and best practices
About You The successful candidate will work with key stakeholders to understand and identify business data needs and provide solutions to improve outcomes. You will bring a continuous improvement approach staying updated on database technologies, methodologies and advanced tools. To be successful in this role you will have/be:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, similar field or equivalent experience
- Experience in the Agriculture industry desirable
- At least Four years of database administration or data engineering experience
- Expertise with Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server or Azure SQL.
- Proficiency with Python and Pyspark
- Experience with GITHub or similar version control systems (CI/CD)
- Advanced skills in ETL processes, data manipulation, and SQL optimisation
- Proven expertise of database security, governance, and compliance principles
- Experience with visualising and securing data within Microsoft Power BI desirable.
- Organised with high attention to detail and the ability to reprioritise
- Ability to foster, work collaboratively and maintain sound working relationships with stakeholders at multiple levels
- Strong communication skills - written and verbal
