The North Australian Pastoral Company (NAPCo) was founded in 1877 and is one of Australia's leading beef cattle companies, managing over 6.1 million hectares and home of Australia's First Carbon Neutral Beef - Five Founders. NAPCo employs approximately 220 staff operating across Queensland and the Northern Territory, with 15 cattle stations, a Depot in Mount Isa, a Feedlot and Farm in the Darling Downs and an office in Brisbane's CBD.
Monkira Station - Coorabulka, QLD
Coorabulka is located about 100km south east of Boulia and 260km north of Birdsville in the QLD channel country between the Diamantina and Georgina Rivers. Coorabulka Station has land comprising of open downs vegetated with Mitchell and Flinders grasses, home to approx. 7000 head of NAPCo cattle. Operating as a grower property for weaners prior to consignment to backgrounding properties or directly to the Wainui Feedlot.
The role
Reporting to the Monkira Station Manager, the Coorabulka Overseer will work closely with the Station Manager in planning the work program and property development. Staff are shared across Monkira and Coorabulka, so clear communication skills and ability to work effectively with stakeholders to prioritise staffing needs and workload is essential. The overseer works closely with the Station Manager to manage, train and develop the crew, who may have varying levels of experience.
We're looking for someone that has extensive hands-on station experience and can lead by example. This position would suit a working couple and has accommodation to suit a couple.
Day to day duties include:
- Working closely with the Station Manager to prioritise workload and share staffing resources
- Managing, training and developing staff - setting the standard of a values-driven culture
- Developing operational plans for cattle husbandry, including mustering, drafting and processing cattle through yards
- Ensuring details of all stock movements and treatments are recorded
- Ensuring infrastructure, property assets, machinery, vehicles and equipment are maintained to a high standard
- Providing accurate and timely reports to the Station Manager
Ideally the successful candidate will have: - Experience working as an Overseer or Head Stockman
- Excellent livestock handling skills, of a quiet and sensible nature
- An effective communication style and strong leadership skills
- A MR or HR Licence (or willingness to get one)
- Accurate record keeping and sound administration skills
- Good organisational skills and the ability to change priorities to meet deadlines
