Looking for a genuine part-time accounting role where you can take ownership, work independently and still have flexibility in your week?
Our client is a well-established education provider operating two closely connected brands across campus-based and online learning.
They are looking for an experienced Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function in a permanent three-day-per-week position at their North Sydney campus.
This is more than a transactional accounting role. You’ll manage everything from payroll and reconciliations through to month-end reporting, BAS and regulatory obligations, while working directly with an experienced and supportive General Manager.
The preferred working days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, although there may be some flexibility for the right person.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing the day-to-day finances across two related education businesses
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Processing fortnightly payroll for permanent and casual employees
- Managing superannuation, payroll tax and workers’ compensation requirements
- Completing bank, credit card and general ledger reconciliations
- Preparing monthly income calculations and journals
- Producing monthly P&L, Balance Sheet, cash flow and budget variance reports
- Preparing and lodging BAS
- Following up declined payments and outstanding debtors
- Assisting with annual budgets and forecasting
- Supporting year-end processes, audits and external accountants
- Maintaining accurate employee and financial records
- Managing VET Student Loan administration, reporting and compliance
The business uses Xero extensively, together with Excel and its external student management system.
About you This role will suit an Accountant who enjoys being across the detail, working independently and taking ownership of their responsibilities.
You will ideally have:
- An accounting qualification
- At least three years of relevant accounting experience
- Strong practical experience across payroll, AP, AR, reconciliations and month-end
- Experience preparing journals and monthly management reports
- Confidence preparing P&L and Balance Sheet reports
- Good working knowledge of Xero
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- Experience preparing BAS
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Sound judgement, initiative and excellent attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines
Experience with VET Student Loans, TCSI, RTO Manager or Smart and Skilled reporting would be highly regarded but is not essential. Training can be provided to someone with strong accounting fundamentals.
You don’t need to tick every box to be considered. If you’re a capable Accountant with strong practical experience across Excel, payroll, AP, AR and month-end reporting, we’d like to hear from you.
Why consider this opportunity?
- Permanent part-time position working three days per week
- Some flexibility around working days for the right person
- Convenient North Sydney location close to Metro, train and bus services
- Take genuine ownership of the finance function
- Work directly with an experienced and supportive General Manager
