What’s the Role?
Pattern Specialist – Chilca Project
At Bradken, we are looking for a dynamic and committed Pattern Specialist (permanent full-time position) to support the operations at our Chilca Foundry.
As part of our team, you will play a key role in the design, outsourcing, inspection, maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of patterns used in the production of castings. The Pattern Specialist will work closely with foundry personnel, engineers, and quality control to ensure patterns meet the required specifications and contribute to the production of high-quality castings.
You will bring exceptional communication, organizational, and planning skills, as well as problem-solving and project management abilities. You will work closely with various departments to understand their needs and ensure appropriate processes and needs for pattern making.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, Manufacture/Outsource manufacturing of patterns and develop vendors suitable to deliver on that objective.
- Conduct thorough inspections in coordination with the Operational team of new and existing patterns to identify any defects, damage, or wear and tear. Make necessary adjustments or modifications to patterns as required.
- Verify pattern dimensions and tolerances to ensure compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Document inspection findings and maintain accurate records, take corrective/Preventive actions and ensure the processes are in place that help build continuous Learning.
- Guide preventative maintenance on patterns to ensure their longevity and optimal performance.
- Prepare Instruction for repair of damaged or worn patterns using appropriate techniques and materials in house or outsourced.
- Identify opportunities to improve pattern design, construction, and maintenance procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers and foundry personnel to implement process improvements and enhance casting quality.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices and new technologies in pattern making.
- Work effectively with foundry personnel, engineers, and quality control to ensure seamless production processes.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors regarding pattern status, repairs, and any potential issues.
- Provide training and guidance to other team members on pattern care and maintenance
Our Ideal Candidate meet the following criteria: Qualifications: - Education: Qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial or Metallurgical).
- Experience: Proven experience as a Pattern Specialist in a foundry environment. Strong understanding of pattern making techniques, pattern design, materials, and processes. Ability to design, read, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- o Modelling Techniques: Knowledge of modelling techniques like surfacing, freeform modelling, and parametric modelling is essential for creating intricate and accurate pattern designs.
- o Pattern Design Fundamentals: Deep understanding of pattern making principles, including shrinkage allowances, draft angles, parting lines, core prints, and gating systems, is essential for creating functional and manufacturable patterns.
- o Casting Processes: Knowledge of different casting processes and their specific pattern requirements is crucial for designing patterns that meet the needs of each process.
- o Tooling and Fixtures: Familiarity with tooling and fixtures used in pattern making and foundry operations is helpful for designing patterns that are compatible with existing tooling.
- Foundry Background: Previous experience in foundries is required.
- Software and Digital Tools Management: 3D models, CAD drafting, 3D scanning, software simulation and related advanced technical tools.
- Language Skills: Basic-Intermediate or conversational proficiency in English.
Location: The role will be based in our Chilca Foundry, located in G74J+WH, Chilca 15870 (Transportation will be provided).
