Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor / Chemist
Site Location: Colwyn Bay
Responsible To: Quality Manager and Global Quality Director
Purpose of the Role: The purpose of the role is to oversee the development, analysis, and improvement of laboratory procedures and chemical processing activities at Colwyn Bay, ensuring the effectiveness of all equipment, and leading innovations in chemical processing and formula development. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, maintain and innovate chemical processes, and ensure all metallography and lab activities meet customer specifications and company standards (ISO9001, NADCAP).
Client Brief: Our client is a world leading producer of material surfacing treatments, with sites all over the world offering excellent training regimes and many opportunities for progression.
KEY INFORMATION
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £35,000 - £40,00 per annum (depending on experience )
Hours: Monday to Thursday 7.45am-4.15pm, Fridays 7.45am-12.45pm
Holidays: 21 days + BH
Facilities: Staff parking, canteen and very clean and professional environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Role:
Manage and improve chemical processing and laboratory procedures.
Supervise laboratory activities and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Develop and innovate new chemical processes and formulas.
Ensure all laboratory equipment is calibrated and maintained.
Oversee the storage and handling of chemicals (COSHH), and ensure all operations comply with safety protocols.
Coordinate with EH&S to ensure proper wastewater management and effluent discharge complies with regulatory standards.
Administer chemical software systems for accurate data recording and compliance with QMS.
Analyze performance data to mitigate risks and ensure conformance with quality standards.
Train staff on chemical processes and ensure ongoing competency.
Collaborate with other departments to optimize chemical processes in plating tanks.
Key Skills Required:
Strong understanding of chemical formulations and their interrelationships.
Analytical skills to diagnose problems and identify root causes.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures, calibration, and maintenance standards (ISO9001, NADCAP).
Competency in managing chemical process optimization and tank performance.
Proficient in safety management systems, COSHH, and environmental regulations.
Experience in leading and training teams, ensuring competency in chemical testing and maintenance.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
