Our client is seeking a future-focused, hands-on General Manager to support business growth, operational improvement, business development, and long-term succession planning.
This key leadership role will initially focus on operations, with planned expansion into sales and technical support as the position develops. The successful candidate will combine hands-on operational leadership with strategic thinking and commercial discipline.

The Role.
As General Manager, you will work closely with the Managing Director to strengthen operations, improve internal processes, support team performance, and drive sustainable growth through structured business development.
This role suits a leader who can move confidently between strategic planning, practical problem solving, staff leadership, customer engagement, supplier relationships, and business improvement.
Key Responsibilities.
- Lead and improve daily business operations across the organisation.
- Drive business development by identifying growth opportunities, strengthening customer relationships, and supporting new market initiatives.
- Support business growth through stronger processes, accountability, sales discipline, and team coordination.
- Work closely with the Managing Director on succession planning, commercial strategy, and future market development.
- Oversee operational performance, workflow efficiency, customer service standards, and internal communication.
- Build strong relationships with staff, customers, suppliers, and key business partners.
- Assume broader leadership responsibility across sales and technical support as the role develops.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, reporting, service delivery, profitability, and customer growth.
- Promote a culture of ownership, professionalism, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
About you. You’ll be a practical, commercially aware leader who enjoys improving how a business runs, developing customer opportunities, and balancing people, process, customers, and accountability.
You will bring. - Proven experience in operations management, general management, business development, or senior business leadership.
- An engineering background is preferred, particularly in mechanical engineering, with the ability to understand technical products, customer applications, and operational requirements.
- Strong commercial judgement and ability to identify, prioritise, and convert growth opportunities.
- Experience leading teams in a hands-on business environment.
- Confidence across operations, sales, technical support, customer service, or distribution-related functions.
- A process improvement mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, customer relationship, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in industrial products, engineering, automation, manufacturing, electrical/mechanical products, technical distribution, or mechanical engineering environments would be highly regarded.
