Join this Australian-owned, interdisciplinary design practice and play a critical leadership role within the Architecture Division. Operating at the intersection of architecture and product design, our client designs structures not as static installations but as dynamic, Kinetic systems. By applying the precision, innovation, and mechanical thinking of product design to architectural challenges, they create spaces that move, adapt, and perform in ways traditional architecture can’t achieve.
The Role
Responsible for operational performance, project support, reporting, resource management and compliance, you’ll be working closely with Design Managers, Project Managers, the Installation Manager, Project Administrators and the Project Director. You will be responsible for project delivery excellence; strong commercial outcomes and the ongoing development of high-performing teams aligned with the company’s vision and values.
- Spearhead the optimisation of operational processes, ensuring a balance of functional, aesthetic and financial needs of projects for each client
- Negotiate contractual agreements with tier-one contractors, ensuring clarity, compliance, and favourable commercial terms
- Drive strong commercial performance, including budget control, forecasting, cost management, and P&L accountability
- Provide senior-level administrative oversight, ensuring smooth coordination across all operational and project support functions
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, ensuring the ongoing development of high-performing teams
- Leverage your strategic mindset to drive continuous improvement and elevate the company's operations
- Oversee staff allocation and resource planning across workshop, installation, commissioning and maintenance teams, ensuring safe working practices for all staff and subcontractors
Skills and experience
You will be a creative thinker with excellent communication and negotiation skills who can build rapport and influence others to drive better outcomes. Organised and proactive with the ability to manage competing priorities, you’ll be adept at ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality. Strong attention to detail, problem solving and sound commercial acumen are key attributes for this role, as is a passion for the creative industries, particularly in the built environment.
- Minimum 15+ years demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering / industrial design
- Proven experience in operations management within a project-based or design/engineering environment
- Strong understanding of project financials, budgeting and forecasting
- Demonstrated ability in resource planning and cross-functional team coordination
- Ability to lead and motivate teams and drive continuous improvement
- Strong reporting, data integrity and system management capabilities
- Degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or similar field
