Procurement Engineer

Our client is an established design and engineering company in Sydney, a leader in the industry and responsible for over 3,000 pivotal projects across various sectors including defence, aerospace, commercial marine and oil & gas. Due to continued growth they are currently seeking a highly effective Procurement Engineer to translate complex technical requirements into effective supplier engagement.

Role and Responsibilities
The Procurement Engineer supports the commercial and operational functions of the Repair & Overhaul department. Working closely with the Procurement Manager and the broader procurement team, you will bridge procurement coordination, technical understanding, sales support and customer service. You will possess a technical aptitude and may be building a career in procurement support, technical sales or engineering services. Combining customer-facing responsibilities with internal coordination, technical data handling, and commercial support, you will be responsible for:
Procurement Coordination & Internal Support
- Assist the Procurement Manager with sourcing specialist materials, components and services
- Create and maintain purchase orders, supplier files and procurement records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with service requirements
- Liaise with internal requestors, engineering teams and workshop supervisors to clarify procurement needs and timelines
- Support supplier evaluation, performance monitoring and follow-up to ensure timely delivery for repair and overhaul projects
Sales & Customer Support - Respond promptly to customer enquiries, prepare quotations and support order processing
- Clarify technical product/services, leveraging capabilities
- Prepare and deliver technical sales information, RFQ’s, documentation and occasional presentations under guidance from senior technical staff
- Maintain clear, professional customer communication
Technical & System Support - Interpret technical drawings, job scopes and product specifications to support accurate quoting and procurement
- Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, certifications, and project reports
- Work closely with engineers, workshop supervisors and technicians to support job scheduling, parts availability and customer updates
- Assist the procurement manager in developing proposals and tender documentation
- Contribute to internal improvement projects
Skills and Experience Required - Bachelor’s degree (or diploma) in Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent industry experience
- Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to convey technical information
- High attention to detail and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Competency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to interpret technical documents and engineering drawings
- Must be eligible for Defence security clearance/screening
Preferred - Experience in procurement, technical sales, internal sales or engineering support role - internships included
- Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems
- An understanding of repair, overhaul, or testing activities within safety critical systems
- Exposure to defence, marine, industrial gas or similar regulated environments
- Customer service and team working skills
