Fleet & Workshop Manager
Lae, Papua New Guinea
Reporting to a senior executive, you will take ownership of a large and diverse fleet, ensuring maximum availability, reliability, compliance and cost efficiency while leading a team of dedicated fleet professionals.
As the Fleet & Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of fleet assets across multiple locations. You will drive performance through preventative maintenance programs, contractor management, fleet optimisation and strong leadership while ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will work closely with operations to support business continuity and deliver measurable improvements across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and develop a national fleet team across multiple locations.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximise fleet availability.
- Oversee the maintenance and lifecycle management of heavy vehicles, forklifts, mobile equipment and other fleet assets.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, licensing, insurance and safety requirements.
- Manage external service providers and maintenance contractors to agreed performance standards.
- Monitor fleet utilisation, maintenance costs, fuel consumption and operational KPIs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve reliability, reduce downtime and optimise operating costs.
- Investigate fleet incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Develop driver compliance programs, transport scheduling and fleet governance processes.
- Provide leadership during critical fleet incidents and support operational continuity when required.
About You - Demonstrated experience managing large commercial or industrial fleets.
- Trade qualification in Automotive, Diesel Mechanics, Auto Electrical or a related discipline (highly regarded).
- Strong leadership experience managing maintenance teams and contractors.
- Sound knowledge of fleet maintenance, asset lifecycle management and preventative maintenance strategies.
- Experience managing budgets, analysing fleet performance and driving operational efficiencies.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and fleet management systems.
- A proactive, hands-on leadership style with a focus on continuous improvement.
