Safety Manager – Lae, Papua New Guinea

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Safety Manager to join a leading industrial organisation committed to world-class safety standards and operational excellence. Based in Lae, this role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of all personnel, contractors, and visitors across multiple sites nationwide.

As a key member of the Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) team, you will lead on-site safety initiatives, develop proactive risk management strategies, and foster a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility. The position offers a chance to make a tangible impact, working with senior leaders to continuously improve safety performance and compliance to international standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain site safety systems aligned with ISO 45001 or equivalent standards.
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
• Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and continuous training programs.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to strengthen safety culture and ensure compliance with national regulations.
• Prepare and submit detailed safety reports, maintaining accurate documentation and metrics.

About You
You are a proactive, hands-on safety professional who leads by example. You can engage teams at all levels, think strategically about risk, and act decisively when needed.

Essential qualifications and experience:

• Certificate IV (or higher) in Workplace Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in a safety management role within industrial, manufacturing, or operational environments.
• Strong working knowledge of ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 standards.
• Proven experience leading investigations and risk assessments.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and reporting skills.

Desirable:

• Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
• Experience in large-scale manufacturing, logistics, or FMCG environments.
• First Aid and Train-the-Trainer certifications.
