Senior Underwriter – Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a Senior Underwriter role with a leading organisation in Papua New Guinea, where you’ll play a key part in shaping underwriting strategy, managing portfolio performance, and ensuring operational excellence.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting and assessing risks across General, Medical, and Life Insurance lines. You will evaluate new and renewal policies, determine appropriate pricing and coverage, and make informed, evidence-based decisions to ensure both profitability and compliance. You will also collaborate closely with brokers, clients, and internal teams, providing technical guidance and support while maintaining strong relationships and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements across multiple insurance lines.
- Analyse client information, medical reports, and financial data to determine risk acceptability, coverage, and pricing.
- Monitor portfolio performance, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to improve profitability.
- Provide mentorship and technical support to underwriters and contribute to training initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to underwriting policies, delegated authorities, and regulatory requirements.
- Engage with brokers and clients to negotiate terms and resolve queries professionally.
About You

Qualifications & Experience - Diploma or Degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in underwriting, risk assessment, or portfolio management. Medical underwriting is essential.
- ANZIIF certification (Associate or Senior Associate) will be highly regarded.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and underwriting software.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, mentor others, and drive performance outcomes.
