RSPCA NSW is Australia's best known and most respected animal welfare organisation working tirelessly to prevent animal cruelty.
The Outreach Officer is responsible for developing, coordinating and delivering proactive community outreach programs to improve animal and human welfare.
This role involves coordinating desexing and preventative care initiatives, supporting education efforts in community and for young people, managing client and stakeholder relationships and ensuring program logistics, safety, reporting and continuous improvement.
The Outreach Officer works within an interdisciplinary team to implement programs aligned with RSPCA NSW’s strategic vision, enhancing community wellbeing and keeping people and pets together. This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Outreach and Education Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organise and deliver Community Animal Welfare Scheme (CAWS) programs and CAWS+ initiatives
- Coordinate targeted desexing programs
- Engage with government departments, NGOs, and industry groups
- Manage client communications, bookings, and follow-ups
- Coordinate and engage stakeholders for Healthy Pet Days, including locations, staff, volunteers and equipment
- Ensure priority locations and targeted promotion to clients and animals to have the greatest community impacts
- Maintain accurate records and financial reporting
- Deliver workshops and collaborate with welfare service providers
- Support education initiatives and shared outcomes across Education and Outreach
- Support volunteer branches and community events
- Ensure WH&S compliance and risk management
- Lead and support staff and volunteers in the office and the field
- Collate and share outcomes and impacts from Outreach activities with internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvement of outreach and desexing programs
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Formal qualifications and or professional experiences in project management, social work, animal health or veterinary nursing
- Certificate IV in Vet Nursing or Animal Studies (advantageous)
- Authorised microchip implanter (desirable, or willingness to train and acquire)
- Understanding of the One Welfare and Social Determinates of Health approaches
- Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Current Working with Children Check and NSW Driver's License
- Cultural competency training or willingness to undertake
- Experience in animal welfare and working with marginalised communities
- Empathy for both humans and animals
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
- Strong computer literacy and administrative skills
-Working within an interdisciplinary team of qualified vets and nurses from community, shelter or private practice backgrounds and able to assist clients with accessing services and advice
-Willingness to travel and flexibility to sometimes work outside of regular hours. The Outreach team runs community events a number of times a month, sometimes for a week at a time.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to life and carry 20 kg
- Ability to pack and unpack outreach vehicles and set up for community outreach events, often in fields with uneven ground
- Physical ability to lift animals for transport and surgery.
