RSPCA NSW is Australia’s best known and most respected animal welfare organisations, working tirelessly to prevent animal cruelty, caring for over 15,000 animals in New South Wales, Australia every year.
We are animal protectors, carers, and advocates, and bring solace to the abandoned, surrendered and injured. We offer shelter, education, veterinary care and compassion, while helping animals in need find loving ‘furever’ homes.
We are seeking to recruit Animal Care Officers (Animal Attendants) who bring experience of animal care to provide animal husbandry, implement behavioural initiatives, provide enrichment and care to all creatures great and small (dogs, cats, small animals to livestock) at our Yagoona Shelter.

RSPCA NSW is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with approximately 500 staff across NSW to care for animals.
About the Role
As an Animal Attendant Superstar, you will:
- Perform animal care tasks such as cleaning cages/enclosures; medicating; feeding; exercising; assessing animals
- Provide basic first aid to animals where required
- Ensure high level communication to managers and colleagues to ensure all information is provided to required parties
- Provide high level customer service to all stakeholders, including members of the public

- Basic Understanding of Animal Care: Familiarity with fundamental principles of animal husbandry and well-being, such as dietary requirements and basic health indicators.
About YouYou will have the confidence to interact with customers from all walks of life and possess the following:
- Certificate II Animal Care or equivalent experience essential
- Previous animal handling skills
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- The ability to work rotating rosters including weekends and public holidays
- The desire to work with people to improve animal welfare outcomes
- Initiative and ability to prioritise
- Good organisational skills
- Team player
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to conduct manual handling tasks
- Resilience – the ability to bounce back from occasional setback
