About the Role

This is a strong opportunity for a mid-to-senior lawyer to join one of Australia's most established Health practices, working alongside highly regarded partners in the medical indemnity and professional indemnity space. The team operates at the intersection of litigation, insurance and health law — advising Australia's leading medical defence organisations, private hospitals, health practitioners and allied health providers.

The practice is in a period of sustained growth, and the team is looking for someone who can carry a substantive file load independently while also contributing to the development of junior lawyers. You'll have exposure to complex and varied matters across civil litigation, coronial, regulatory and disciplinary jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end claims and investigations involving doctors, hospitals, allied health staff and insurers
• Appear across civil jurisdictions, the Coroner's Court, NCAT, the Medical Council of NSW and relevant commissions
• Deliver timely, accurate written advice to insurers and insured clients across a range of complex matters
• Represent clients at mediations, hearings, conferences and inquests
• Engage directly with clients, including corporate counsel of health entities, individual practitioners and clinic management
• Contribute to business development and client relationship management
• Mentor and support junior lawyers within the team

Requirements

• 4–10 years PAE in medical indemnity, health, aged care and/or defendant personal injury law
• Demonstrated experience advising insurers or health sector clients on litigation and claims management
• Strong written advocacy skills and the ability to communicate clearly with sophisticated stakeholders
• Comfortable managing a high-volume file load with a degree of independence
• Leadership capability — able to guide and develop junior team members
• Admitted to practise in NSW
