Senior Social Worker – Permanent Caregiver Support Service

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity


Our Permanent Caregiver Support Services team are based in our specialised Contact Centre in Manukau. As a senior Social Worker, you will bring at least 4 years of social work practice experience and join a skilled team of Contact Centre Representatives, Case Workers from diverse backgrounds and SWRB-registered Social Workers.
  
You will provide expert support and guidance to caregivers referred to our service by Oranga Tamariki, once they are designated as Permanent Caregivers under the Care of Children Act 2004 or Section 113 of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989. Your work will include planning, assessing, and monitoring the support services that tamariki need – ranging from specialist medical services to funding for extracurricular activities and access to special education.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

• A qualification in Social Work.
• Currently registered with the SWRB and are working towards a current APC
• Minimum 4 years of Social Work practice experience, ideally including experience with whānau, children or caregiver support services.
• Proven ability to build rapport with whānau and maintain professional relationships with whānau and stakeholders
• Commitment to culturally responsive practice and working within a bicultural context.
• Confidence in contributing to the planning, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of care plans.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly with all stakeholders
• Uphold Turuki values by enhancing and protecting the mana of caregivers and tamariki/rangatahi in your care
• Experience in trauma-informed practice is highly desirable
• Knowledge of Māori Tikanga and Te Reo Māori (or another language) is an advantage
• Understanding of Oranga Tamariki legislation and associated care processes is desireable
