- Full-time position 40 hours per week
- Initial roster: Sunday to Thursday, 11.00 am to 7.30 pm
- Primarily based at UniLodge Dovedale Campus
- A graduate-style role focused on resident engagement and wellbeing support
About the role We are looking for an approachable, organised and people-focused Residential Life Assistant to join our UniLodge Canterbury team.
At the heart of this role are regular, intentional conversations with a cohort of residents. You will build trusted relationships, check in on their university experience and help connect them with appropriate support, services or next steps.
Conversations may cover settling into university, academic pressures, wellbeing, relationships and shared-living challenges. Your role is to listen, provide practical guidance, identify emerging concerns and make appropriate referrals.
You will primarily support residents at Dovedale Halls, but support wider UniLodge operations as required.
What you will do - Build positive relationships with an assigned cohort of residents
- Hold regular one-to-one check-in conversations
- Identify emerging wellbeing or support needs and make appropriate referrals
- Follow up with residents and support case coordination under the guidance of senior staff
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of resident interactions
- Work closely with the Property Manager Operations and wider team
- Support residents experiencing challenges with university or communal living
- Attend team meetings, training, case discussions and student events
- Assist with general residential operations when required
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive residential community
About you You care about people and know how to listen without judgement. You are approachable and encouraging while maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality and accurate records. This role would suit a recent graduate or someone beginning or developing a career in student accommodation, tertiary education, youth support or Residential Life.
You will ideally bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
- Experience supporting, advising, mentoring or working with students or young adults
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A thoughtful, strengths-based and inclusive approach
- Good organisation, administration and record-keeping skills
- Sound judgement and the confidence to escalate concerns when needed
- The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Experience in student support, education, youth work, community services or student accommodation would be valuable but is not essential.
This is not a typical Monday to Friday role, and suits someone looking for a role working with young people.
