09th September, 2026
- Part-time position: 30 hours per week
- Three 10-hour shifts: Thursday, Friday and Saturday
- Working from 5.30 pm
- Primarily based at UniLodge University Hall, also supporting UniLodge Ilam Apartments and Dovedale Halls
About the role We are looking for a calm, approachable and reliable Night Coordinator to join our UniLodge Canterbury team. Reporting to the Property Manager Operations and working alongside our Night Managers, you will help provide an effective after-hours service across University Hall, Ilam Apartments and Dovedale Halls. You will primarily be based at University Hall but at times could travel between halls when responding to incidents, completing checks or assisting residents.
This is a entry position within our night operations team and offers an excellent opportunity to develop experience in student accommodation, pastoral care, customer service and incident response.
You will be a visible and reassuring presence during the evening and overnight period, helping residents feel safe, responding to practical concerns and supporting respectful behaviour within our communities. The role combines resident support, property checks, administration and frontline response, so you will need to be comfortable working independently while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate a concern.
What you will do - Support the team with the delivery of safe and effective after-hours operations
- Act as an approachable point of contact for residents during the evening and overnight period
- Respond to resident enquiries, lockouts, noise concerns and other after-hours matters
- Provide initial support when a resident is experiencing a wellbeing concern
- Respond to incidents and emergencies, following established procedures and escalation pathways
- Support positive student behaviour and respectful community expectations
- Complete regular internal and external property checks
- Assist with after-hours arrivals, check-ins and customer service enquiries
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents, interactions and call-outs
- Complete agreed reception, administrative and operational tasks
- Communicate clear handovers to the Night Managers
- Participate in emergency responses during rostered hours
- Travel between halls when required
About you You are dependable, level-headed and comfortable engaging with university students. You can be friendly and approachable while maintaining professional boundaries and responding confidently when expectations need to be reinforced.
You do not need to have managed a night operation before. We are looking for someone with good judgement, a willingness to learn and the ability to follow procedures carefully. You will know when you can resolve something yourself and when a situation needs to be escalated to a on duty Manager or another senior team member.
You will ideally bring:
- Experience in customer service, security, hospitality, community support, youth work or another people-focused role
- A calm and practical approach to unexpected or challenging situations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to relate positively to university students from diverse backgrounds
- Sound judgement and an understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Confidence working independently and as part of a wider team
- Good written skills and attention to detail when documenting incidents
- Confidence using computers and learning new systems
- Reliability and availability to work every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5.30pm
- A full, clean New Zealand driver licence
Experience in student accommodation, residential care, pastoral support or after-hours operations would be valuable, but training and support will be provided.
