A New Zealand-owned and operated hotel in the Auckland Airport Precinct is looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join its Food & Beverage team. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment while supporting the culinary team.
About the Role As a Kitchen Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring the kitchen remains clean, organised, and compliant with food safety and hygiene standards. Working with minimal supervision, you will play a key role in supporting daily kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
- Wash and sanitise dishes, cutlery, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
- Operate and clean the dishwasher at the end of each shift.
- Clean kitchen floors, work benches, shelving, ovens, grills, stove tops, chillers, and storage areas.
- Dispose of rubbish, recycle cardboard, and maintain clean waste bins.
- Safely handle and dispose of broken crockery and glassware.
- Clean and store kitchen mats and ensure wet floor signage is displayed during cleaning.
- Assist with maintaining staff kitchen supplies, including tea, coffee, and other refreshments.
- Help receive, store, and organise kitchen items as required.
- Report maintenance or operational issues to the Chef on duty.
- Carry out additional cleaning and kitchen support duties as directed.
What We're Looking For:
- Previous kitchen hand or commercial cleaning experience is essential.
- Physically fit and able to remain on your feet throughout the shift.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Reliable, hardworking, and able to work independently.
- Flexible and available to work weekends, with additional shifts available when required.
- Reliable transport to and from work.
- Restricted or Full New Zealand Driver Licence (preferred due to shift times).
- Ability to pass a Ministry of Justice check and pre-employment drug test.
- Applicants must hold a valid New Zealand work visa, residency, or citizenship.
What's on Offer:
- Part-time position – 16 hours per week.
- Weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday) – 8-hour shifts, primarily morning shifts with occasional afternoon shifts depending on hotel functions.
- $24.65 per hour.
- Training provided.
