Position Overview
International and domestic airline security provider at Auckland Airport is seeking dependable, professional, and customer-focused individuals to join the team as Pre-Flight Security Officers. This position plays an important role in supporting safe, secure, and efficient airport operations by combining frontline customer service with pre-flight security responsibilities. The successful candidate will assist passengers, monitor access to restricted areas, carry out required screening and inspection activities, and help ensure compliance with aviation security, safety, and operational procedures across international airline services.
Short term contract (with potential to become permanent)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out pre-flight security screening activities for passengers, staff, and authorised items in accordance with site procedures and aviation security requirements.
- Monitor, control, and record access to gates, secure zones, and restricted airport areas.
- Provide professional, courteous, and efficient customer service to passengers, airline partners, contractors, and other airport stakeholders.
- Respond appropriately to customer enquiries, operational issues, and security-related incidents, escalating concerns when required.
- Maintain a high level of awareness and vigilance in busy, fast-paced, and security-sensitive environments.
- Complete required checks, documentation, and reporting accurately and within expected timeframes.
- Follow all aviation security regulations, standard operating procedures, and company policies at all times.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and operational teams to support safe and efficient flight departures.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety policies, procedures, and reporting obligations.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties associated with airport customer care and pre-flight security operations.
Hours of Work - This role operates on 10-to-12-hour shifts across a rotating roster.
- Standard roster pattern is 4 days on / 4 days off.
- Shifts may include morning, afternoon, evening, overnight, weekend, and public holiday work.
- Candidates must be available to work over Christmas, New Year, and other peak operational periods if rostered.
- A high level of flexibility is required, due to the airport environment and as shift preferences may not be accommodated.
Essential Requirements - Must have full driving license and own transport.
- Must be available to commence employment on 13th July or 27th July, or as otherwise agreed.
- Must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
- Must be able to successfully complete all required pre-employment and security screening processes, including:
- New Zealand and overseas criminal history checks
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, if required
- Aviation Security vetting and clearance processes
- Must be able to meet roster, attendance, and reliability expectations for a 24/7 operational environment.
- Must be willing to comply with company policies, uniform standards, and all operational procedures.
Skills, Experience, and Personal Attributes - Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to interact confidently and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, alert, and decisive in busy or high-pressure situations.
- High level of personal presentation, reliability, and professional conduct.
- Ability to follow procedures accurately while also using sound judgement when responding to issues or incidents.
- Physically capable of standing, walking, and working for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in secure, controlled, or restricted airport environments.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Preferred but not essential:
- Previous airport, screening, or security experience
- Certificate of Approval (COA) or willingness to work towards obtaining one
