About the role
In this role, you will support the day-to-day operations of the Duhig Village Café, ensuring high-quality food service, a welcoming café environment, and compliance with Southern Cross Care Queensland standards, policies, and Food Safety Program requirements.
As the Café Team Leader, you will work closely with the Hospitality Services Manager to assist with menu preparation, recipe development, food costing, stock control, and daily café operations. You will also provide hands-on cooking support as part of normal rostered duties when required, while helping to maintain food safety compliance, quality service delivery, and efficient workflow across the café.
You will provide day-to-day guidance and support to café and hospitality staff, assist with training and onboarding, and help foster a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused team culture. You will also play an important role in ensuring food is prepared, stored, and presented in line with hygiene, safety, and presentation standards.
In addition, this role provides operational support across SCCQ sites when key hospitality staff are absent or where staffing shortages arise. Most importantly, you will bring strong leadership, a practical hands-on approach, and a genuine commitment to delivering a warm, respectful, and person-centred café experience for residents, families, visitors, and staff.
What will you bring to the role?
- Certificate in Cookery (preferred, but not essential).
- Experience in hospital, aged care, or similar large-scale cooking environments.
- Demonstrated commercial cooking knowledge and experience.
- Experience working in a hygiene-controlled environment.
- Knowledge of food safety standards, including safe food handling, storage, labelling, and temperature monitoring.
- Experience monitoring and handling food and equipment safely.
- Understanding of WHS and quality standards relevant to hospitality services.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage positively with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
