Southern Cross Care have an opportunity for a part-time Gardener/Maintenance Officer to join our team working at Con Crowley Retirement Village in Broken Hill. This is a part-time role, working 30 hours per fortnight.

About the role
In this important role, working as the Gardener/Maintenance Officer, reporting to the Retirement Living Manager, you will provide maintenance and gardening support across this Retirement Village. A friendly sociable personality coupled with empathy and compassion for the elderly will make you a perfect fit for this role.
Some responsibilities may include but not be limited to:
- Regular communal areas checking to ensure tidy and well-maintained site to support all activities.
- Maintenance of all equipment including adhering to preventative maintenance program.
- Coordination of external contractors required to attend servicing requirements for equipment.
- Horticultural and ground development, maintenance and monitoring.
- Re-planting of garden beds and maintenance to maximisation of seasonal conditions.
- Trees and shrubs pruning.
- Mowing of lawns, edging, fertilising and weeding.
- Clearing and removal of garden refuse.
- Undertaking of any necessary repair work and routine maintenance around the site.
- Obtaining quotes for any necessary works and repairs to be undertaken by outside service providers in accordance with company Procurement/policies/procedures.
What will you bring to the role? - Horticultural knowledge and experience (desirable).
- Maintenance and/or Trade qualification (desirable).
- Previous experience and knowledge in general and commercial maintenance.
- Previous experience managing contractor relationships (highly desirable).
- Demonstrated ability to work from manuals and drawings.
- Demonstrated problem solving and a “can do” attitude.
- Exceptional people and interpersonal skills.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong decision-making and time management skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team but also be capable of working autonomously.
