UP Recruitment has partnered with a project management, quantity surveying and advisory firm to appoint an Associate / Senior Quantity Surveyor to their Auckland team.
This is a senior opportunity for a commercially minded QS who wants to move beyond traditional cost management and take on greater client responsibility, strategic advisory and business development.
You'll join a team working across the full asset lifecycle, with involvement from early feasibility and concept through procurement, delivery, final account, handover and ongoing asset advisory.
The Role
You'll work predominantly with private-sector clients, alongside selected public-sector projects, providing high-level cost management and commercial advice across major and technically complex developments.
The portfolio includes:
- Industrial developments
- Aviation projects
- Healthcare
- Data centres
- Luxury residential
- Hotels
- Mixed-use developments
You'll be involved across the full project lifecycle, including: - Feasibility and initial cost advice
- Concept and detailed cost planning
- Procurement strategy and tendering
- Commercial and procurement advice
- Contract administration and cost control
- Construction-stage cost management
- Variations, claims and commercial reporting
- Final accounts and project close-out
- Handover and ongoing asset advisory
This is not simply a role focused on producing cost plans. You'll be expected to
understand the client's wider objectives, provide strategic commercial advice and help shape procurement and delivery decisions.
At Associate level, you'll also take a meaningful role in
client relationships, winning work and developing the wider business.
The Team You'll join an established advisory business with a strong reputation across the New Zealand property and construction market.
The team works closely across
project management, quantity surveying and advisory, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals across different disciplines.
It's an environment suited to someone who is
commercially confident, client-focused and looking for greater influence over both projects and the direction of the business.
There is also a genuine pathway to take on broader leadership responsibility and potentially become part of the
ownership / shareholder structure over time.
What You'll Need - 8-10+ years' Quantity Surveying / Cost Management experience
- Strong experience across commercial construction projects
- PQS / consultancy experience preferred
- Strong technical capability across cost planning and project delivery
- Excellent understanding of procurement and construction contracts
- Experience providing commercial advice directly to clients
- Strong understanding of project feasibility, cost planning and financial control
- Confident managing client relationships and stakeholder expectations
- Commercially minded with strong communication skills
- Comfortable contributing to business development and winning new work
- Ideally experience across technically complex or high-value projects
- Someone who is ambitious and interested in progressing beyond pure technical QS work
