Our client in Buffalo, NY, is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their team!
This is a hybrid/full-time/direct hire position. Salary based on experience: $70k-$90k
Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations while maintaining ownership over the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger. We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated individual to join our team in this primarily in-office role. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally. This role reports to the Accounting Supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities
Own general ledger accuracy, including detailed review of general ledger activity and account reconciliations
Assist with the preparation and review of all month-end journal entries
Support monthly and year-end close processes
Lead tax compliance across all areas, including sales/use, state filings, and corporate taxes
Oversee state and local business registrations (including registrations driven by remote employees) and ensure ongoing compliance
Support DCAA/DCMA requests, incurred cost submissions, and internal/external audits
Assist with annual planning and budgeting processes
Provide backup support across all accounting functions, as needed
Take an active role in complex accounting transactions and technical accounting research
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting
4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a government contracting or public accounting environment
Strong understanding of general ledger GAAP accounting, cost accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or CPA-eligible.
Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP systems.
Knowledge of payroll, federal, and/or state tax compliance requirements.
