Our client, a well-established, industry-leading manufacturer of centrifugal pumps based in Buffalo, NY, is seeking an Order/Application Engineer to join their team!
This is a full-time/direct hire/hybrid position
Salary for this role based on experience: Up to $110k
The Order Engineer serves as the technical hub for order processing and production coordination. You will be responsible for ensuring that customer orders — from military contracts to commercial projects — are engineered, documented, and released to the shop floor accurately and on time. This requires a blend of mechanical expertise, drafting proficiency, and cross-functional communication across engineering, sales, quality, and operations.
What you'll be doing:
- Review customer purchase orders for technical specifications, deviations, and contractual requirements; ensure full compliance with engineering and contract standards.
- Determine required drawings, documentation, and engineering data for each job contract; coordinate and verify layout, detail, and assembly drawings and bills of materials.
- Act as a technical liaison between departments — conferring with shop supervision, sales, quality, and operations on scheduling changes, shortages, and special work.
- Process and review BOMs, routings, special instructions, quality/manufacturing procedures, and repair routings to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure all order entry details — structured BOMs, change orders, job routings, and customer specifications — are captured and adhered to in the ERP system.
- Prepare or review customer technical submittals and data packages as required.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to confirm new and modified designs align with best technical practices and customer specs; recommend cost and production improvements.
- Create and review operational job packets for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain an accurate order release log by sales order to support on-time customer delivery commitments.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives across engineering, sales, and operations.
What we're looking for: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial Technology or an Engineering discipline is preferred; 10+ years of related experience may substitute — practical knowledge and mechanical acumen are valued above all.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD tools; comfortable with detailed drawing review, creation, tolerancing, and dimensioning.
- Experience with centrifugal pump design is a strong plus and will be given significant preference.
- Solid working knowledge of ERP systems with the ability and eagerness to develop deep proficiency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills — able to convey technical information clearly to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Highly organized with strong planning, prioritization, and project execution capabilities.
- Sharp analytical mindset with a natural ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborative team player with a strong results orientation and drive for continuous improvement.
- Prior supervisory or lead experience is a plus for candidates interested in growing into a people management role.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
