Our client, a decades-long manufacturer in Sanborn, NY, is seeking a skilled 2nd Shift Laser Operator/Programmer to join its team!
This is an on-site/ full-time/permanent position
Hourly based on experience: $27-$30/hr
Position Overview: We are looking for a skilled Laser Operator/Programmer to join our fabrication team. This role involves both programming and operating CNC laser cutting machines to produce high-quality metal parts according to blueprints and specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD/CAM software, machine setup, and precision measurement, along with a strong commitment to efficiency, accuracy, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Programming: Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for laser cutting machines using CAD/CAM software.
- Machine Operation: Set up, calibrate, and operate laser cutting equipment to run production orders.
- Material Handling: Load and unload materials, ensure proper machine settings for material type and thickness.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to confirm adherence to specifications.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of laser equipment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production, quality checks, and machine maintenance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and resolve technical issues.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and machine safety features.
Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade school training preferred.
- Proven experience as a CNC Laser Operator, Programmer, or similar role in metal fabrication.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SigmaNEST, or equivalent).
- Experience with Cincinnati laser cutting machines is strongly preferred.
- Strong blueprint and technical drawing interpretation skills.
- Solid understanding of material properties and cutting parameters.
- Ability to use precision measurement tools and perform basic math calculations.
- Physically able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Skills - Experience with Amada, Trumpf, Bystronic, or Mazak laser systems.
- Knowledge of nesting optimization for material efficiency.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for job tracking.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
