Our client in Buffalo, NY, a top professional engineering firm with a focus on sustainability, energy consulting, building commissioning, and related technical services, is looking for an Energy Engineer to join their team!
We are seeking an
Energy Engineer with strong knowledge of building systems, HVAC, lighting, renewable energy systems, and building construction. This role combines energy engineering expertise with building systems/controls knowledge to support audits, commissioning, and efficiency projects across educational, institutional, governmental, commercial, and high-tech facilities.
- Conduct energy audits (ASHRAE Levels 1-3) and perform energy analyses across a wide range of building systems and equipment.
- Perform on-site inspections, field measurements, and efficiency assessments; collect and analyze energy usage data.
- Develop building system profiles, including equipment inventories and operating schedules.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop energy conservation measures (ECMs), including energy savings calculations and supporting documentation.
- Lead commissioning activities from design review through bidding, construction, and warranty phases.
- Provide diagnostics, analysis, and troubleshooting of HVAC/mechanical systems and building automation systems.
- Ensure compliance with LEED commissioning requirements and ASHRAE protocols.
- Prepare clear, detailed technical reports and maintain strong client communication.
Qualifications - B.S. in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred; an Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology or a related field will be considered.
- Experience with building simulation/modeling software and testing equipment (blower door, combustion analyzers, thermal imaging, etc.) is a plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in HVAC design, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of building controls, automation systems, TAB, and energy management.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and report writing skills.
- Professional certifications (CEM, CEA, LEED AP, BPI, HERS Rater, or Commissioning accreditations) or progress toward certification are highly desirable.
- NYS Registered Professional Engineer is a strong plus.
