Our client in Buffalo, NY, is seeking an Accountant to join their team!
This is an on-site/full-time/direct-hire position
Salary range based on experience: Up to $85k
We are seeking a focused, motivated, and detail-oriented
Accountant II to join our expanding fintech team. In this role, you will be instrumental in executing daily financial operations, supporting both core accounting activities and merchant transaction processes. The ideal candidate possesses a solid foundation in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), demonstrates strong integrity, and embraces a growth-oriented mindset. What You’ll Do: Transaction & Expense Management - Review corporate credit card transactions across business units for accuracy and compliance, ensuring each charge is supported with proper supporting documentation and includes appropriate details for account coding, categorization, comments, and business unit allocation.
- Assist in the matching and accurate recording of cash transactions using the daily bank feed.
- Assist with the reconciliation of cash inflows and outflows between the subsidiary ledger, payment gateway, and the accounting system and properly record said daily cash journal entries in the general ledger.
Merchant Operations Accounting - Prepare and perform daily reconciliations for operating and merchant settlement bank accounts, identifying, communicating, and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Enter and manage both pull and push funds transfer requests related to merchant bank accounts in concert with operations and customer success.
- Track, reconcile, and perform timely follow-up on merchant returns and refunds, ensuring all transactions are recorded and documented properly in the accounting system.
Journal Entries & General Ledger Support - Support the month-end close process through timely and accurate journal entries and reconciliation worksheets.
- Format, prepare, and upload monthly data files, including imports and exports into the accounting system.
Sales Tax & Invoicing - Prepare sales tax filings for various jurisdictions, ensuring accurate documentation and submission readiness for management review.
What You Bring: - Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting.
- 3 to 6 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong understanding of GAAP and proficiency in ERP systems.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and customer-facing communication skills.
- Understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Laser focused with high attention to detail, inquisitive mindset, and commitment to do the right thing.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth, high-expectation environment.
