This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing Lawyer to join one of Melbourne’s most highly regarded litigation practices.
Our Dispute Resolution & Litigation practice in Melbourne is a dynamic group with a diverse range of interesting work, and a place for lawyers to further develop, grow and be part of a genuine team. Our work includes acting for listed entities, SMEs, directors and officers, large REITs, industry superfunds, state and federal governments, insolvency practitioners, financiers, insureds, large family companies and the list goes on. About the role
We are seeking a disputes lawyer with 2-4 years PAE to work closely with Partners Alana Giles, Jessica Tilbury and Howard Rapke and a team of lawyers and paralegals. Examples of the work undertaken in the team include:
- Property disputes
- Commercial/corporate conflicts
- Large family trust disputes
- Acting for corporate regulators, directors and/or officers, and companies in regulatory investigations and civil penalty proceedings
- Acting for insolvency practitioners, directors and creditors in all matters arising out of the administration liquidation and receivership of companies
- Retail, commercial and industrial leasing: advising a number of Australia’s largest commercial landlords and tenants in matters of strategy, risk assessment and management, alternative dispute resolution, and litigation
- Prosecuting and defending shareholder oppression claims
- Advising directors and company officers regarding their statutory duties
- Insurance indemnity advice and disputes
- Defending companies and individuals in matters involving white collar crime including fraud, foreign bribery and anti-corruption matters as well as prosecutions under Federal and Victorian criminal law
- Acting for state and federal governments on investigations, Royal Commissions, procurement disputes and a range of advice matters
About you You will have gained experience from a well-regarded disputes practice which has a reputation for delivering outstanding results for its clients. You will have excellent communication and drafting skills, enjoy a busy work environment and thrive in a collaborative work culture. You will be a skilled lawyer with excellent technical ability and a desire to help those around you and contribute to the overall morale and success of the team.
In addition, you will have:
- 2-4 years’ PAE with experience in a commercial setting, ideally from a well-regarded litigation practice.
- Experience working in a general commercial disputes practice where you have had exposure to a range of work. In addition to commercial disputes it would be advantageous if you have had exposure to insolvency, regulatory, property and/or retail leasing disputes.
- Experience in engaging with a broad range of individual, corporate and government clients with the ability to cultivate successful and trusted client relationships.
- Excellent analytical, research and drafting skills.
