About the team
You will join a well-respected national employment team headed by our partners who are recognised by their peers as leaders in the field across offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Our Brisbane team currently comprises seasoned Partner Louise Hogg, an experienced Special Counsel and supportive Legal Assistant.
About the role
As a member of this close-knit team, you will act primarily for employers and work on a diverse range of matters relating to issues such as post-employment restraints, unfair or unlawful dismissal, enterprise bargaining, industrial disputes, compliance with workplace laws, organisational change strategy and management, sexual harassment and discrimination. We also anticipate further exposure to workplace health and safety and workplace investigations, an area for expansion within our team.
This is a great opportunity to undertake interesting and varied work with a good balance of frontend and backend work with a focus on clients from the construction, NFP and social and community sectors.

You will actively participate in the marketing activities of the group, including writing articles for newsletters and bulletins, and attendance and presentation at client events and workshops.
About you
You will have a minimum of two years PAE, and we will consider candidates at Lawyer, Associate to junior to mid Senior Associate level. For the right candidate, this role may be the ideal prospect to be promoted to Senior Associate.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication, including high level drafting skills with demonstrated experience in tailoring advice and communication to your audience. You will also have a keen eye for detail, be a genuine team player and have an understanding, commensurate with your experience, of the Australian laws relating to:
- employment disputes;
- employment contracts;
- industrial relations;
- enterprise bargaining;
- dismissal claims;
- discrimination claims;
- workplace bullying;
- restraint of trade claims;
- transfer of business;
- independent contractors;
- Fair Work Act compliance; and
- work health and safety.
You will pride yourself on keeping abreast of the law and be eager to learn and develop as a lawyer under the guidance of more experienced practitioners.
You will show an aptitude for the business of private legal practice in relation to time recording, billing, debtor management and matter control (including client liaison). You will also enjoy working with, guiding and learning from clients, and be focused on excellent customer service.
