About the team
Our Government Law practice works with Commonwealth agencies of all types and sizes across a variety of sectors. We are expanding and currently looking for someone who can join team of information law specialists who have extensive experience in privacy, secrecy, FOI, data sharing and governance, AI, and information access laws.
About the role
Our Canberra office is seeking a government information and privacy lawyer at Senior Associate level. You will be involved in advising and supporting Australian Government clients to comply with their obligations under applicable privacy and secrecy laws, including the collection and handling of personal information, undertaking Privacy Threshold Assessments (PTA), Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA), AI, data sharing and governance, handling complaints, Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) investigations and addressing data breaches.
You will have the opportunity to undertake varied and interesting matters working alongside our ACT Managing Partner, Elizabeth Carroll.
Elizabeth specialises in public and administrative law with her practicing including advising clients on privacy, freedom of information, data, AI, statutory interpretation, legislative drafting, compliance and regulatory issue. Elizabeth is seeking a senior lawyer to assist her with her practice as well as with mentoring juniors in the team. You will be well-supported, with a genuine opportunity to develop and advance your career.
About you
You will be operating at Senior Associate level working in information law. This is a genuine opportunity for a high performing lawyer to work alongside leading Australian privacy and information law specialists on complex and highly sensitive matters acting on behalf of key Government sector clients.
Previous experience conducting privacy impact assessments and addressing secrecy provisions would be preferable.
You will have excellent attention to detail and the capacity to effectively manage client matters. You will also possess the following:
- High level verbal and written communication including excellent drafting skills;
- Critical and analytical thinking and sound problem-solving ability;
- A strong desire to work as a member of a team whilst meeting client needs;
- Strategic sense and an understanding of the workings and priorities of government; and
- An ethical and commercial, client-centric approach.
You must also have or be eligible for a minimum baseline security clearance.
