As a specialist recruitment partner, Scitex Recruitment is supporting the search for an experienced Workshop Team Leader to oversee evening shift operations in Christchurch. This role is ideal for a decisive, hands‑on leader who thrives in a technical workshop environment and enjoys motivating teams to deliver high‑quality, efficient work.

You’ll work closely with the daytime team leader, workshop supervisor and maintenance scheduler to ensure seamless operations across shifts. With responsibility for performance, workflow, safety and team development, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on daily workshop output and long‑term operational improvement.


What you will do:

• Supervise and lead workshop team members during evening shift operations (Mon–Thu 14:00–12:30, Fri 14:00–19:00)
• Monitor production schedules, workflow efficiency and quality standards
• Allocate workload using computer‑based asset management systems
• Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching and feedback
• Implement and enforce health and safety protocols and compliance
• Analyze operational challenges and make decisive, effective decisions
• Manage shift schedules and resource allocation to optimize productivity
• Communicate with management, other team leaders and departments to ensure continuity
• Collaborate with the daytime team leader to align priorities and share best practice
• Train and mentor team members on equipment, procedures and asset management systems
• Maintain accurate records of production metrics, incidents and team performance
• Foster a positive, collaborative and safety‑focused work environment

  
What we are looking for:

• Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a heavy automotive workshop, fleet maintenance or transport engineering environment
• Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle systems, maintenance processes and workshop operations
• Demonstrated ability to manage shift operations and multiple priorities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate diverse teams
• Experience in performance management and staff development
• Solid understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance
• Strong problem‑solving skills with a decisive approach to decision‑making
• Experience with scheduling, resource allocation and workforce planning
• Ability to work evening shift hours consistently
• Formal qualification in heavy vehicle maintenance, automotive engineering or similar
• Background in continuous improvement or lean methodologies (advantageous)
