A well-established food manufacturing company in South Auckland is looking for an experienced Senior Microbiology Technician to play a key role in their Quality and Food Safety team, supporting laboratory testing, environmental monitoring, and ensuring products meet the highest food safety standards.
 
This role will initially be temporary, however there are strong long-term opportunities available for the right candidate. It is a great opportunity to gain experience within a reputable manufacturing environment while contributing to critical food safety and quality processes.
 
The Role
You will play an important role in ensuring microbiological safety across production processes and products. Working closely with the quality and production teams, you will support laboratory testing, environmental monitoring, and microbiological analysis.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Conduct microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods for contaminants such as bacteria, yeast, and mold.
• Perform pathogen testing including organisms such as Salmonella and Listeria on products and environmental surfaces.
• Assess and validate cleaning and sanitation processes across production areas.
• Support environmental monitoring programs and routine sampling within production facilities.
• Analyze microbiological data to identify trends and potential contamination risks.
• Perform shelf-life testing and verification under different storage conditions.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and reporting to meet food safety and compliance standards.
• Manage laboratory inventory and microbiological supplies to ensure testing requirements are met.

About You

• Qualification in Microbiology, Laboratory Science, Food Science, or a related field.
• Experience working in a microbiology laboratory, food manufacturing, dairy, or FMCG environment.
• Strong knowledge of microbiological testing procedures and food safety practices.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
