We’re back with the AAF crew… again.
And if you’ve been watching from the sidelines, you’ll know that’s a pretty good sign.
Because when we keep coming back to the same team?
It usually means something special is happening behind the scenes.
This one exists because something new just got the green light.
A brand new project.
Fresh investment.
More work. More momentum. More impact.
So yes… this is their third Business Analyst hire.
This is growth. Real, tangible, exciting growth.
About AAF
AAF operates the national authentication infrastructure used by over 1.5 million users across Australian higher education and research.
They sit quietly (but critically) at the centre of Australia’s digital research ecosystem - enabling secure access across universities, research institutes, government, and national infrastructure programs.
Think about that for a second.
Every time a researcher accesses data.
Every time systems connect across organisations.
Every time secure collaboration happens at scale…
AAF is part of the reason it works.
This is identity.
Authentication.
Authorisation.
Trust - designed properly, at scale.
Not the kind of tech most people see.
But absolutely the kind that everything depends on.
They’re backed by national infrastructure programs, deeply embedded in the research landscape, and recognised globally in the Trust & Identity space.
And right now?
They’re in a seriously considered growth phase.
- New projects being approved and funded
- Continued demand across external programs
- Expanding delivery capability across the board
This role is a direct result of that momentum.
The GIG This is a Business Analyst role sitting within the PMO, reporting into the Manager of the division.
And whilst you'll be working in a technical environment, this is first and foremost a Business Analyst role.
The successful person won't necessarily be the most technical person in the room.
What matters is your ability to bring people together, ask great questions, uncover requirements, challenge assumptions, and create clarity where ambiguity exists.
You'll spend a significant amount of your time working with internal stakeholders, funding partners, project teams, and external collaborators - helping projects move from ideas into clearly defined deliverables.
You'll be:
- Facilitating workshops with internal and external stakeholders
- Gathering, analysing, and documenting business requirements
- Mapping current and future state processes (as-is / to-be)
- Creating user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting artefacts
- Building strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups
- Supporting projects through discovery, design, delivery, and implementation
- Working alongside developers, technical specialists, and project teams
- Supporting UAT activities and implementation planning
- Helping ensure solutions align to business needs and project objectives
- Representing AAF with collaborators and helping deliver a seamless project experience
You'll move between conversations with ease.
One moment you're facilitating a workshop.
The next you're mapping a process.
Then you're helping a project team translate requirements into something actionable.
Most importantly...
You'll help bring structure to complexity.
What we're looking for in YOU
- 5+ years' experience as a Business Analyst
- Strong workshop facilitation and stakeholder engagement experience
- Proven experience gathering, analysing, and documenting requirements
- Experience creating user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps, and other BA artefacts
- Confidence managing diverse stakeholder groups and driving outcomes
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence conversations
- Experience supporting projects through the full delivery lifecycle
- Comfortable working alongside technical teams and learning enough to ask the right questions
- Experience with UAT, testing support, and implementation activities
Nice to have (but not essential)
- Experience in higher education, research, government, or NFP environments
- Exposure to technology-enabled transformation projects
- Experience working alongside software delivery teams
- Familiarity with Identity & Access Management (IAM) concepts
You don't need to be deeply technical.
What matters is that you're comfortable working with technical teams, asking good questions, and helping translate between business needs and delivery outcomes.
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys the craft of business analysis.
Someone who loves facilitating workshops.
Uncovering requirements.
Solving problems.
Building consensus.
And helping projects succeed.
PERKS that actually perk!
- Work on nationally significant infrastructure that supports research, science, and innovation
- Be part of newly funded projects with strong organisational backing
- Genuine collaboration with universities, government, and research leaders
- A thoughtful, structured PMO with strong delivery practices
- 35-hour work week that actually respects balance
- Salary sacrifice options + additional leave benefits
- Bonus recharge leave over the Christmas/New Year period
- A genuinely inclusive, purpose-driven culture that values great work
Ready to make your mark on something new? If you're a Business Analyst who enjoys facilitating workshops, bringing people together, creating clarity, and helping projects move from ambiguity to action... this one will feel like a very natural next step.
And if you like the idea of joining a team not because someone left... but because things are growing?
Even better.
