Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)
(AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, Datadog) | Remote-first | Regulated SaaS
This isn’t your run-of-the-mill infra gig.
At Biza.io, SREs are the quiet force behind a platform operating in one of the most complex regulatory environments in Australian tech - the Consumer Data Right (CDR).
They’re continuing to build out their SRE function (and this time, we’re bringing in two), and these hires are critical. Not just to scale systems - but to bring clarity, ownership, and operational maturity to a platform that’s already live, growing, and under pressure.
This is your chance to own infrastructure, observability, and production environments - and help shape how reliability actually works in a regulated, high-growth SaaS business.
So, who’s Biza.io?
Biza.io is Australia’s leading CDR infrastructure provider - powering secure, consent-led data sharing for some of the country’s biggest financial and energy brands.
They’re deep in the detail - building the APIs, schemas, and compliance frameworks that let consumers control their data for the first time.
Their work sits at the intersection of fintech, energytech, regtech and pure software engineering - and the problems they solve are genuinely hard.
Most of what they build hasn’t been done before.
It’s a lean, senior team. High trust. No hiding. No fluff.
The GIG
This isn’t a siloed “infra team” role.
You’ll sit within a small, high-performing engineering team, working directly with the Director of Engineering and Principal-level talent - owning outcomes, not just tickets.
The environment? Fast-moving startup energy… with real regulatory constraints. Meaning you need to move quickly - but not recklessly.
What you’ll actually be doing
- Own observability end-to-end - metrics, logging, alerting, and incident response
- Reduce alert fatigue - today it’s noisy, reactive, and painful → you’ll redesign what “good” looks like
- Drive operational efficiency - clean up legacy infra, reduce cloud waste, and improve system clarity
- Manage infra through code - Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD, deployments (ArgoCD, GitLab)
- Own production responsibly - access is earned, not given - you’ll build trust through good decisions
- Partner with engineering - clear separation of duties, but tight collaboration
- Plan, communicate, and deliver - if it’s going to a change or architecture meeting… it needs to be ready
This is not a “keep the lights on” role.
This is a “fix how the lights are wired” role.
What they’re REALLY looking for (beyond the tools) They need someone who:
- Owns outcomes - no hand-holding, no surprises, no “it’s fine” when it’s not
- Can operate in a high-performance team - your ideas will be challenged, and that’s a good thing
- Balances speed with discipline - not cowboy, not corporate… somewhere in the sweet spot
- Thrives in small teams - 3-5 people, high accountability, no hiding
- Figures things out - you won’t be spoon-fed; curiosity is mandatory
If you’ve been the “smartest person in the room” your whole career… this might be a shock.
If you’ve worked with strong engineers who push your thinking - you’ll love it.
Tech-wise, you’ll likely bring - Strong SRE / infrastructure experience in AWS environments
- Deep experience with Terraform + Kubernetes
- Solid observability exposure (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana etc.)
- Experience working in regulated or high-risk environments (or at least an appreciation for it)
- A background in small, fast-moving teams (not heavily siloed enterprise)
Why this role is cool - You’ll own and fix a real problem (observability + on-call pain is very real right now)
- You’ll shape how SRE is done - not just follow a playbook
- You’ll work directly with senior, technical leadership (no layers of nonsense)
- You’ll have autonomy - but with accountability
- You’ll see your impact immediately (and feel it… especially on-call )
Why engineers choose Biza - Remote-first (East Coast Australia)
- Small, sharp, senior, genuinely collaborative team
- High-trust environment - no micromanagement
- Real product-market fit and meaningful growth
- Purpose-led - this actually impacts how data is used in Australia
If you like solving problems where scale, risk, and real-world impact collide - and you’re ready to own outcomes, not just infrastructure - this one’s worth a chat.
