About the opportunity
We’re seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Services and Technology division. In this role, you’ll help design, automate and operate secure, highly scalable cloud infrastructure that supports critical national health services. This role requires participation in an on-call support roster approximately once per month, providing after houses support for a seven-day period. You will be working closely with platform and delivery teams on continuous delivery. You’ll strengthen security and reliability, and provide on‑call support to ensure resilient, always‑on systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve AWS cloud infrastructure ensuring it’s secure, scalable, reliable and fit for purpose for critical services.
- Lead infrastructure-as-code and automation standards CloudFormation/CDK), mentoring others and ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across teams.
- Provide technical leadership in solution design, shaping and reviewing infrastructure architectures and integration patterns across the Healthdirect environment and external services.
- Drive security and compliance outcomes in AWS, embedding security-by-design and guiding teams on controls and practices aligned to compliance expectations.
- Guide project teams through delivery and transition, including modernising platforms, migrating legacy services, and safely retiring end-of-life systems.
- Build and uplift CI/CD capability by designing and improving delivery pipelines and deployment practices that support continuous integration and continuous deployment.
- Champion operational excellence for production services, improving monitoring/metrics, leading incident response practices, and participating in the on-call roster to keep services stable and trusted.
You’ll bring - A developer mindset, with the ability to code and script confidently, test changes incrementally, and work comfortably across the software development lifecycle.
- 5+ years’ experience working in AWS cloud DevOps, including VPC, EC2, ALB/NLB and Lambda.
- 5+ years’ experience writing infrastructure as code and automation, using tools like CloudFormation or CDK.
- Strong experience across networking, infrastructure and service management in production environments.
- Proven expertise in AWS security services and delivering solutions aligned with E8 and ISM requirements.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines, leading technical work
