Position: Registered Nurses – Mental Health
Start: ASAP
Duration: Contracts up to 12 weeks
Salary: Up to $54.56 per hour (depending on experience)
Location: Northern NSW – Lismore and Tweed Heads
 
Primary Purpose of the Position

Practice and promote safe, efficient and effective nursing care that reflects current standards of nursing practices that align with the nursing code of conduct and AHPRA standards.
 
Key accountabilities/responsibilities

• Use critical thinking and analysis to guide decision making and aid development of nursing practice that is evidence based and specific to the needs of each allocated patient or patient group.
• Actively promote effective therapeutic and professional relationships within the care environment to cultivate respect and empowerment of both patients, carers and health care workers.
• Pursue, promote and facilitate the ongoing professional development of self and others to ensure currency of knowledge and skills.
• Conduct and document accurate, comprehensive and timely nursing assessments as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, to support safe patient care.
• Use all available information to develop, monitor and evaluate a plan of care in consultation with patients, carers and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to support best patient outcomes.

Key Selection Criteria

• Experience working in a relevant mental health setting and/or enrolment in postgraduate mental health education.
• Current registration with AHPRA and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
• Availability and capacity to participate in a 24 hour/seven day rotating roster which includes working all shifts, all days of the week including public holidays.
• Demonstrated effective communication through the use of information technology, written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
• Knowledge and understanding of person centred care, evidence based practice and quality improvement.
• Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to practice in accordance with legislation, policies and within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse.
• Knowledge and understanding of how to apply Trauma Informed Care and Recovery principles in the care of people with mental health issues.
• Demonstrated and articulated knowledge of the NSW Mental Health Act, NSW Mental Health Competency Standards and current National Practice Standards for Mental Health Workforce.
• Demonstrated ability to use problem solving skills and a multidisciplinary team approach in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.

Essential Criteria
Appointments are subject to the following checks/ clearances:

• Rights to Work in Australia
• Current Registration with AHPRA and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
• Evidence of Category A vaccinations, immunisations or serology, including Tuberculosis Assessment
• Reference checks from current supervisor/manager
• National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
• Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
