Start-Up & Commissioning Field Engineer-LV & MV
Houston & Surrounding Geographies
Full Time, Direct Hire Position
$42-$55/hr Plus OT
Engineers & Field Techs focused on low- and medium-voltage (LV/MV) start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field support for power distribution equipment and associated electrical systems.
Location: Field-based (travel required) | Home base: Houston, TX
In this hands-on, customer-facing position, you’ll work on-site at industrial, commercial, utility, and mission-critical facilities to confirm safe installation, verify performance to specification, resolve field issues, and produce thorough commissioning documentation. The work centers on bringing LV/MV distribution equipment online safely and reliably while coordinating with multiple stakeholders in the field.
Key Responsibilitie
- Perform start-up and commissioning for LV/MV electrical systems and equipment, including (but not limited to):
- LV switchgear/switchboards, MCCs, panelboards
- MV switchgear, breakers, and protective components
- Transformers, UPS, generators (where applicable), ATS/STS
- Grounding systems, power quality equipment, and related auxiliaries
- Execute commissioning tasks such as:
- Pre-functional verification, visual and torque checks, and validation against drawings/schematics
- Electrical testing (e.g., insulation resistance, continuity, phasing/rotation, functional checks)
- Breaker verification/testing support and coordination for injection testing as needed
- Troubleshoot electrical equipment and system performance issues; complete root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
- Interpret one-lines/three-lines, wiring diagrams, schematics, and OEM manuals to support testing and troubleshooting.
- Deliver complete closeout documentation, including:
- Checklists, test reports, punch lists, and turnover packages
- Field markups/redlines and photo documentation when required
- Communicate professionally with customers, electricians, GCs/ECs, OEM partners, and utility representatives; provide clear updates and recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in electrical field service, start-up/commissioning, power systems testing, or similar.
- Working knowledge of LV/MV distribution equipment and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to read and apply electrical drawings and troubleshoot control/power circuits.
- Comfortable working in industrial/energized environments while adhering to LOTO and PPE requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent technical training/experience.
- MV commissioning exposure (approximately 5kV–35kV), protective relays, and breaker control systems.
- Familiarity with common test tools (as applicable): IR/megger, contact resistance, clamp meters, phase rotation, injection test sets, power quality analyzers.
- Certifications such as NFPA 70E, OSHA 10/30, NETA (Levels I–III), or similar.
- Experience in data centers/mission-critical, utilities, petrochemical, manufacturing, or other complex operating environments.

Travel & Work Environment
- Travel up to ~70% depending on project demand; overnight travel is expected at times.
- On-site work may include electrical rooms, rooftops, substations, and industrial settings; PPE required.
- May support night/weekend schedules for outages, cutovers, and commissioning windows.
