About Our Client Our client provides mission-critical electrical engineering and consulting services for data centers, industrial facilities, and high-reliability infrastructure projects. Their team designs and delivers robust, efficient, and utility-grade substations for organizations that want to own and operate their own on-campus power systems.
Position Overview The Substation Protection & Control (P&C) Engineer will lead the design and integration of protective relaying, SCADA, and control systems for high-voltage substations serving hyperscale and enterprise data centers.
You’ll ensure our client’s substations are intelligent, safe, and reliable—capable of supporting continuous operation for some of the most demanding power users in the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Design protection and control schemes for substations (typically 69–345 kV), including breaker control, bus differential, transformer protection, and relay logic.
- Prepare one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Specify and configure protective relays, meters, RTUs, and IEDs from leading manufacturers (SEL, GE, Siemens, etc.).
- Develop SCADA, control, and communication architecture for substation monitoring and remote operation.
- Perform short-circuit, coordination, and relay setting studies using ETAP, ASPEN, or equivalent tools.
- Coordinate with utilities to meet interconnection protection requirements.
- Collaborate with the physical design, civil, and electrical teams to ensure complete and integrated substation designs.
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, including testing and troubleshooting of protection systems.
- Ensure compliance with NERC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and utility standards.
Qualifications Required - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in protection and control design for substations or high-voltage industrial systems.
- Working knowledge of protective relays, SCADA systems, and communication protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850).
- Experience developing relay settings and coordination studies.
- Familiarity with industry standards (IEEE, NERC, NESC, NEC).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and system modeling tools (ETAP, ASPEN OneLiner, SKM).
