Job Title: Technical Services Representative

Our client is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Services Representative to join the team. As a Technical Services Representative, you will be responsible for performing electrical startup, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical distribution equipment rated 208V through 38KV at customer facilities. Other locations considered include Greensboro/Winston-Salem and surrounding areas.
This position requires a working knowledge of electrical distribution equipment from all manufacturers, and familiarity with electrical power distribution systems. You must have at least five years of field service experience working for an electrical equipment OEM or electrical equipment testing company. Experience terminating, splicing, and testing medium voltage cable is preferred.
You will be required to travel in the Carolinas and surrounding states. Often, you will be working during client maintenance outages and emergencies that may include evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. The ability to respond to emergency calls outside of normal business hours is also required.
The successful candidate will have a professional, polite, and respectful customer service-oriented attitude. You must be able to manage and track travel expenses and complete expense reports with receipts and documentation monthly.
Responsibilities:
- Perform electrical startup, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical distribution equipment rated 208V through 38KV, including switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, transformers, etc.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of test equipment, testing techniques, and general knowledge of NFPA 70B requirements for maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Perform medium voltage cable terminations, including heat shrink, cold shrink, elbows, T-Bodies, and splices.
- Install and upgrade electrical components such as circuit breakers, power monitoring hardware, instrument transformers, protective relays, energy reduction maintenance switches, etc.
- Respond to emergency calls outside of business hours as needed.
- Manage and track travel expenses and submit reports with documentation monthly.
- Provide professional and respectful customer service at all times.
- Prepare professional customer test reports using PowerDB.
Requirements: - Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.
- Ability to pass drug screening for employment and ongoing customer requirements as needed.
- Ability to perform the requirements of a field-based technician, including managing a busy work schedule and arriving at customer sites prepared and on time.
- Lifting bulky test equipment and materials, climbing ladders, and working at heights on lifts or ladders.
- Ability to work individually or as part of a crew.
- Ability to follow all safety procedures required by our client and customers.
- At least five years of field service experience working for electrical equipment OEMs or electrical power testing companies.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems is required.
- Knowledge of VFDs is a plus.
- Knowledge of Automatic Transfer Systems, both PLC-based and controller-based, is an advantage.
- Hospital Isolation Panel testing and certification is a plus.
- Experience terminating, splicing, and testing medium voltage cable preferred.
- Working knowledge of low and medium voltage switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, panelboards, circuit breakers, busway, starters, contactors, grounding systems, ground fault systems, and protective relays.
- Experience with power monitoring hardware installation and troubleshooting, including communication network wiring.
- Familiarity with IoT hardware and communication protocols is helpful.
- Knowledge of circuit breaker primary and secondary testing required.
- Experience with cable testing, including VLF, hipot, TANDELTA, and PD, is preferred.
- Transformer oil sampling and testing preferred.
- General mechanical repairs on electrical switchgear and circuit breakers is required.
- OSHA 30, NFPA70E, and electrical safety training are helpful but can be provided.
