We are looking for a Director of Construction and Maintenance to lead and oversee utility operations related to construction, maintenance, and infrastructure reliability. This role involves managing a team of approximately 45 employees and external contractors, ensuring operational excellence, safety, and efficiency. The director will play a critical role in shaping strategic initiatives, driving continuous improvement, and fostering collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities - Ensure workplace safety by implementing and enhancing policies, procedures, and equipment in collaboration with safety teams.
- Oversee construction and maintenance operations, establishing performance benchmarks and optimizing workflows.
- Manage vegetation control programs to maintain system integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Lead strategic initiatives to support organizational goals and drive infrastructure improvements.
- Develop and manage budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and financial oversight.
- Work collaboratively with labor representatives and leadership to support contract negotiations and maintain strong labor relations.
- Engage with members, contractors, developers, and regulatory agencies to facilitate project execution and ensure customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or 10+ years of experience in utility construction and maintenance.
- 5+ years of leadership experience in operations, budgeting, and project management.
- Strong process improvement, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in enterprise systems (e.g., work management, GIS, customer information).
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and best practices for construction and maintenance.
- Previous experience in the utility sector, particularly within electric utilities.
- Familiarity with labor union environments and collective bargaining agreements.
