Title: Field Service Technician II
Location: Phoenix, AZ
JOB SUMMARY:
We are looking for an experienced Mid-Level Field Service Technician Level 2 to join our client's field service team. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in electrical theory, experience with electrical testing procedures, and the ability to troubleshoot complex power distribution systems. This role requires leadership skills, knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and proficiency in reading electrical drawings, construction blueprints, and electrical control schematics. The candidate must be adept at using electrical testing tools such as multimeters, TTRs, ductors, and torque wrenches to ensure safety and efficiency. Responsibilities include independently performing electrical inspections, diagnostic tests, equipment startups, commissioning, and supporting preventative maintenance programs for medium and low-voltage switchgear products. The selected candidate will guide field service technicians in inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical power distribution equipment safely and efficiently, as well as addressing corrective actions for quality improvement and warranty-related issues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspection and Testing: Conduct electrical equipment inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of switchgear and related electrical equipment following standard procedures.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and repairing switchgear components to ensure optimal functionality.
- Field Modifications: Execute mid-level control wiring upgrades and mechanical alterations on switchgear.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed service reports, documenting test results, maintenance activities, and any identified issues.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety policies, LOTO procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support Senior Technicians: Assist senior technicians on complex tasks to gain advanced technical skills.
- Equipment Calibration: Set up and calibrate testing equipment for maintenance tasks.
- Inventory Management: Maintain tools and equipment, reporting any necessary repairs or replacements.
- Troubleshooting and Repairs: Perform on-site diagnostics and repairs for electrical and mechanical systems.
- Training and Mentorship: Mentor junior technicians and support their technical and professional growth.
- LOTO Procedures: Implement and enforce strict LOTO safety measures during operations.
- Commissioning Leadership: Lead commissioning tasks using predefined startup scripts and guide junior technicians effectively.
- System Modifications: Perform basic programming modifications for components such as metering devices and ATS controllers.
- Other Duties: Complete additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: - Education: High school diploma or GED; an associate degree or technical training in electrical technology or industrial maintenance is preferred.
- Experience: 2-3 years of experience with medium or low-voltage switchgear testing and maintenance.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in electrical testing tools such as multimeters, insulation testers, and clamp meters.
- Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding and commitment to LOTO procedures and safety standards.
- Blueprint Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control diagrams, and one-line drawings.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting abilities with a focus on issue resolution.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in testing, documentation, and adherence to safety standards.
- Tool Proficiency: Experience with power tools, hand tools, and safety protocols related to their use.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Knowledge of medium and low-voltage power systems.
- Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and schematics.
- Experience in fast-paced environments, including data centers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Understanding of NFPA, NEC, and other relevant standards.
- Completion of electrical safety training (e.g., OSHA 10, NFPA 70E).
SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL: - Responsible for overseeing, mentoring, and training Level 1 Field Service Technicians on-site.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: - Vision: Extended screen time and detailed schematic analysis.
- Mental Demands: Ability to multitask, analyze data, and problem-solve effectively.
- Environmental Conditions: Work in various industrial settings, confined spaces, and extreme temperatures.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift 40-50 lbs, bend, kneel, and maintain physical endurance for extended tasks.
- Travel Requirements: Up to 80% travel may be required.
