Director of Applications Engineering
Purpose:
Provide strategic leadership and direct supervision over the Applications Engineering Team, delivering tailored product solutions to client applications using our client’s low and medium voltage switchgear and related power distribution products.
Director Responsibilities:

Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Applications Engineering Team.
Foster a solution-driven culture that supports sales efforts to attract new clients, prioritizing "standard" solutions but embracing complex, customized opportunities when necessary.
Build a high-performance culture through mentorship, coaching, and training initiatives.
Lead talent acquisition efforts in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Collaborate with sales, engineering, and operations teams to enhance our client’s product portfolio.
Work closely with Sales to develop product solutions and manage risks associated with those solutions.

Applications Engineering Team Responsibilities:

Develop physical layouts and high-level Bills of Materials tailored to specific client requirements before purchase orders are finalized.
Collaborate with our client’s design, development, and operations teams to create innovative solutions for unique client applications.
Provide technical and engineering support to sales, reviewing customer plans, specifications, and scopes of work for potential orders.
Ensure client solutions align with our client’s capabilities and certifications; propose alternatives when gaps are identified.
Guide sales in gathering sufficient information to enable design engineering to deliver comprehensive project designs.
Offer technical and strategic support for large, strategic opportunities, including assisting sales and design engineering teams through the entire design lifecycle.
Review and evaluate customer orders against our client’s capabilities upon request from engineering or sales.
Provide direct client-facing support for proposed solutions when requested by sales.
Conduct on-site engineering surveys to support project execution when necessary.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, with a strong foundation in three-phase electric power concepts, including distribution systems, control and protection strategies, and rotating machines.
At least six years of experience in a technical role focusing on switchgear and related products.
A minimum of three years of experience leading an engineering team.
Proven track record of leadership and team-building skills.
Familiarity with the National Electric Code (NEC) and UL/IEEE standards for electrical equipment (e.g., UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20).
Strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills; self-motivated and capable of working independently.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical assembly and electrical schematic drawings.
