Job Title: Mechanical Engineer - Medium Voltage Switchgear & Switchboard Design and Metal Fabrication

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design and development of medium voltage switchgear and switchboards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering, specifically in the design, manufacturing, and testing of medium voltage switchgear systems and switchboards. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, project management, and production, to ensure designs meet industry standards, client specifications, and project timelines.
Responsibilities:
- Design and Development: Lead the mechanical design of medium voltage switchgear and switchboards, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards (ANSI, IEEE, IEC) and client requirements.
- 3D Modeling and Drafting: Create detailed 3D models, drawings, and specifications for components and assemblies using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Material Selection: Evaluate and select materials, components, and manufacturing processes for optimal performance, cost, and durability.
- Testing and Validation: Develop and oversee mechanical testing protocols, including thermal, vibration, and environmental testing, to validate design functionality and safety.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical components.
- Documentation: Prepare design documents, technical specifications, and manufacturing instructions to support production and installation.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost savings, and design optimization to improve product performance and reliability.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure all designs meet industry standards, codes, and company safety policies.
Qualifications: - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on medium voltage switchgear or switchboards.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), with knowledge of design principles related to switchgear and switchboard structures.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant standards and codes (e.g., ANSI, IEEE, IEC) and experience with medium voltage systems (1kV to 52kV).
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, with experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) considered a plus.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-Oriented: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of design and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in product lifecycle management (PLM) software.
- Prior experience with both custom and standardized switchgear designs.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, and sheet metal fabrication.
