Position: Mechanical Inspector - Mechanical Works.
 
Job Summary
The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for inspecting and verifying mechanical works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards. The role involves inspection of piping systems, structural steel, mechanical equipment, welding and NDT documentation, pressure testing, and insulation and cladding activities.
Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical Works Inspection
   • Inspect mechanical installations and verify compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and applicable codes and standards.
   • Inspect the installation and fitting of mechanical components, valves, fittings, and structural steel.
   • Verify the installation of mechanical equipment in accordance with approved procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
2. Piping Installation Inspection
   • Inspect piping installation, alignment, supports, hangers, slopes, and overall workmanship.
   • Verify piping cleanliness, flange alignment, flange management, and proper gasket selection and installation.
   • Ensure piping systems are installed in accordance with approved isometric drawings, layouts, and project specifications.
3. Static and Rotating Equipment Inspection
   • Inspect the installation of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, turbines, compressors, and other mechanical equipment.
   • Verify equipment positioning, alignment, levelling, and installation requirements.
   • Ensure compliance with approved equipment drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements.
4. Welding and NDT Documentation
   • Review welding inspection records and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) reports for compliance with project quality requirements.
   • Verify the availability and acceptability of inspection records, test reports, and relevant quality documentation.
   • Coordinate with welding inspectors and NDT personnel to resolve inspection-related issues.
5. Pressure Testing and Leak Testing
   • Witness and inspect hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests, as well as leak testing, in accordance with approved test procedures.
   • Verify test packages, test boundaries, calibrated instruments, and safety precautions before testing.
   • Review pressure test results and ensure that all inspection records are properly documented.
6. Insulation and Cladding Inspection
   • Inspect insulation and cladding installation to ensure compliance with approved specifications and project requirements.
   • Verify insulation materials, thickness, installation quality, and cladding workmanship.
   • Identify and report defects or deviations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
7. Quality Assurance and Documentation
   • Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspection checklists, method statements, and relevant quality documents.
   • Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for work that does not comply with approved requirements and follow up on corrective actions.
   • Maintain inspection reports, test records, punch lists, and quality documentation.
   • Coordinate with construction teams, QA/QC personnel, and client representatives to ensure timely inspection approvals.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.
• Relevant experience in mechanical inspection within oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, or industrial projects.
• Knowledge of piping systems, valves, fittings, structural steel, static and rotating equipment, and pressure testing.
• Familiarity with applicable ASME, API, and other relevant codes and standards.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, piping isometrics, equipment layouts, and technical specifications.
• Experience in QA/QC documentation, inspection reporting, and compliance verification.
