Position: Lifting & Rigging Engineer / Appointed Person Duration: 1 Year Location: Oman
Key Responsibilities
Develop, review, and approve detailed lifting plans, rigging studies, and risk assessments.
Calculate load weights and centers of gravity to ensure safe and efficient lifting operations.
Design lifting and rigging plans in compliance with applicable standards, operational requirements, and industry regulations.
Perform engineering calculations, technical verifications, and provide engineering input for critical and engineered lift scopes.
Supervise lifting activities to ensure compliance with requirements, applicable standards, and local regulations.
Conduct pre-lift meetings and safety briefings to communicate lift plans, assigned roles, hazards, and control measures.
Oversee lift execution to ensure load stability, controlled crane movements, and safe operational practices.
Ensure proper rigging methods and secure load-handling techniques are applied at all times.
Implement and verify control measures for critical, complex, and heavy lifting operations.
Assess and confirm that ground conditions are suitable for safe operation of mobile and crawler cranes.
Manage the inspection, maintenance, certification, and traceability of lifting equipment.
Verify the competency, training, and certification of lifting personnel, including crane operators, riggers, and signalmen.
Provide technical guidance and operational support to site teams and management regarding lifting operations.
Conduct training sessions, practical evaluations, and competency assessments for lifting personnel.
Participate in lifting risk assessment meetings and communicate findings and recommendations to the lifting team.
Perform inspections of lifting equipment and tools
Conduct load testing of lifting equipment in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.
Verify that all lifting equipment complies with relevant codes, regulations, standards, and specifications.
Inspect vehicles, trailers, and other associated non-lifting equipment where required.
Maintain accurate inspection records, including equipment identification, inspection dates, findings, and recommendations.
Compile certification dossiers and prepare detailed inspection, examination, and test reports
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program, or equivalent qualification recognized under professional engineering standards.
Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar software for preparation of rigging and lifting plan drawings.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in heavy lifting, rigging engineering, and lift planning within industrial construction projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, ASME B30 series, LEEA guidance, and LOLER/PUWER frameworks.
Strong knowledge of lifting equipment operations, lifting tools, and accessories, with understanding of HASWA 1974 and LOLER 1998.
Proven experience in developing, reviewing, and approving lift plans; categorizing lifts; performing engineering calculations such as load paths, center of gravity, sling angle analysis, and component sizing; and conducting risk assessments.
Experience in preparing lifting risk assessments and working knowledge of LOLER, DNV, BS EN, AWS, ASME, or equivalent standards.
Sound knowledge of various rigging methods and the selection of suitable lifting gear for special lifting requirements.
Experience in inspecting fall protection equipment and anchorage points.
Experience in conducting competency assessments for riggers, signalmen, and equipment operators.
