Cathodic Protection (CP) Inspector - Storage Tanks

Job Overview
The Cathodic Protection Inspector is responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and maintaining CP systems to ensure corrosion control for above-ground storage tanks (AST), tank bottoms, pipelines, and associated structures in oil & gas facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect and test impressed current and sacrificial anode CP systems.
• Conduct potential surveys (CIPS, DCVG if applicable).
• Measure structure-to-soil potentials using reference electrodes.
• Monitor rectifier outputs (voltage/current readings).
• Inspect tank bottom CP systems (ring anodes, deep well anodes).
• Verify isolation joints and bonding systems.
• Review CP design drawings and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with project standards and client requirements.
• Prepare inspection reports, test records, and documentation.
• Coordinate with QA/QC, corrosion engineers, and maintenance teams.
• Follow HSE procedures during testing activities.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma / Degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering.
• Certification such as:
  • NACE CP Level 1 / 2 (preferred)
  • Equivalent corrosion certification
• 5-10 years of experience in Oil & Gas (storage tank projects preferred).
• Experience in EPC / brownfield maintenance projects.

Technical Knowledge

• Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP)
• Galvanic (Sacrificial Anode) Systems
• Tank bottom CP systems
• Soil resistivity testing (Wenner 4-pin method)
• Reference electrodes (Cu/CuSO₄)
• International standards:
  • NACE SP0169 (now AMPP standards)
  • API 651 (Tank Bottom CP)
  • API 653 (Tank Inspection)
