WHY NHCS?
Neighborhood House Charter School (NHCS) is a tuition-free open enrollment charter school for grades K1-12 in Dorchester that is a public alternative to traditional district schools. We serve over 800 students across two campuses predominantly from the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan. We believe in the social emotional well-being of our students and know that a well-coached and supported educator is instrumental in helping our scholars both academically and in their SEL growth. We do not give up on kids. Our expectation is that all of our students thrive at NHCS, graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education on the path to life success. Our educators are partners with our scholars and their families as they embark on this path.
 
About the Role
Under the direction of the Student Support Coordinator, the Substitute Nurse will fill in on an as needed basis for the school nurse while they are absent and will perform all of the daily duties and responsibilities of the school nurse.
This is a temporary, on-call position. The job may be performed at either of our school campuses. Our regular school day is Monday - Friday, 7:45 - 4 p.m.
 
Duties and Responsabilities 
Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provide assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and referral for appropriate medical care of students with acute or chronic health conditions.
• Be a "first responder" in case of any medical emergency.
• Develop a medication protocol to safely store, administer, document, and monitor the effectiveness of medication given at school.
• Monitor compliance with current state immunization and health assessment requirements.
• Participate in the development of IEPs and 504 plans to address individual needs if necessary.
• Counsel students, parents and school personnel and plan action for eliminating, minimizing or accepting health problems.
• Monitor the spread of contagious illness and draft management plans as necessary.
• Observe school facilities and recommend modifications necessary to maintain optimum health and safety for students and school personnel.
• Coordinate health services with community health programs.
• Provide information as necessary on frequently encountered health problems, such as: child neglect and abuse drug use and abuse, human nutrition and adolescent pregnancy.
• Collaborate with other teachers as necessary
• Perform other duties as assigned

 
Is this you?

• You have a Bachelor's degree
• School Nurse certification through DESE
• An active Registered Nurse licensure in Massachusetts
• Experience working as a registered nurse for at least two 2 full years in a school health, child health, community health, or relevant pediatric/adolescent clinical care setting.
